We take a look at the upcoming BlackBerry PlayBook tablet at CES 2011. RIM showed off their high-powered, multimedia-savvy, multitasking tablet in Las Vegas, and we had a chance to see what the 1GHz TI OMAP 4430 and the 1GB of RAM could do for the PlayBook's performance. It's fast.

@ManNoob96 Yes I do, very helpful for moving files around. I think you get 2GB to start with.
Hello ,
Do you use dropbox?
Does it helps somehow?
By the way,how many GB dropbox can hold?
I love how you’re not mentioning the real multi-tasking. Something the Apple iPad doesn’t do correctly. And when I say “real”, I mean it doesn’t put other apps on pause when you switch to a new app. I’m sure you’re familiar with that with your iPad…
Still can’t beat the browser in iOS. Smoothest and most intuitive IMO.
Can you bring coverage of the Twitter app on this
So RIM, a company renowned for its email and messaging services, has released a business/enterprise focussed tablet, that doesn’t have a native email client?
Instead they’re requiring users to access email with the web browser. Don’t know whether RIM realised this but most large businesses/enterprise don’t offer web-mail access to their email systems, preferring to use things like exchange and dedicated clients. Those that do have horrid interfaces.
Apologies for the rant. Great review Dave.
@n4ir4m Mainly because I like Apple.
@adamsbil1 I think so, yes.
why always apple, your using a blackberry now, go on their site:))
@AmitLal92 I wholeheartedly agree with you, the playbook is realy great and I love the UI and everything, but the screen is just too small…
Is buying a us version of the playbook the same as buying a us ipad 2 where only the plug is different and thats it?
Thinking of warranty etc
I like the Playbook and the Blackberry OS but the screen is just too small for me. I have an iPad and the big screen makes a huge difference in my opinion. If the Playbook had a 9 inch plus screen it would be a real contender in the tablet market.
come on guys like the video!
Nice
first. woo
it’s really quiet nice!
LESS than A Centimeter…REALLY?
SURVEY: Playbook or Xoom?
(let’s be serious, iPad2 isn’t even a consideration)
@allhellhere What are you talking about? This runs on QNX which is the OS that runs most power plants machines, military hardware, solor grids, etc. So because it multitasks, its a copycat? If that’s the case, every OS that multitasks is a copy of each other.
yeah..lets see how well palm webOS..yeah a lot of hype for nothing them palm was weak, blackberry just used it’s style and made it better…windows had tablets but apple made it cheaper and better as far as adding app and such…look HP has an event on feb 9th so i’ll wait and see the WebOs in action…stop hating on BB
Most people use only a handful of apps, so the argument that this blackberry is “DOA” because of lack of apps wont hold up since all the truly good apps will be available on all platforms anyway as you can see is happening now (angry birds, ebay, skype, etc is available on most mobile OSs). It’s not that blackberry doesn’t have apps, they do, they have tons of apps, they just don’t have as many, but the quality ones, the ones that really matter will be there.
I’m actually extremely excited for this. Good size and extremely convenient multi-tasking, which is essential on a tablet.
Okay. Awesome.
Now release it.
i want
DEAD ON ARRIVAL
@crumcon DOA ?? did Steve Jobs teach u that? This is so much better than iPad. You dont need 100 million apps. Just have some useful apps.
very very very fasttttt
tbf….i dont like blackberry phones? butttt that was reasonably impressive
maybe its because i had LOW expectations, im looking forward to seeing what 2011 has in store for tablets
one thing i know for sure, im buying one
@tipoomaster Very well, sir. Here is a meaningful comment:
This tablet is a copycat of Palm WebOS. RIM just took webOS n made a very little change.
Hope u n others will not swear now. Decency is something upon extinction.
problem is Apps! this wont have as many apps as android or iOS
this will just a tablet DOA DEAD ON ARRIVAL
FINALLY! The first demo-person at CES who knows what they’re talking about!
stfu and watch the video you asshats.
@allhellhere
Well done, but commenting about doing so is almost as pointless as “First”. As is this comment that I’m writing right now. Shit.
Haha. Finally able to deprive some idiot to write a meaningless first comment as ’1st’
Looks promising.
